My Favorite Things: February 2015

my-favorite-things

I decided to join the “My Favorite Things” link-up this month, so go check it out! Here are things I’ve been loving the past month 🙂

Homemade Curry

Maybe it’s because of the colder weather, but my husband and I have been addicted to making curry at home lately. Well, my husband does most of the cooking really. I help with some of the prep and then get to enjoy the results 😉 We’ve made Japanese curry multiple times and started making Thai curries too. The last one we made was Panang curry, and we will be trying yellow curry and massaman curry next!

Project 52

I’ve thought about starting a Project 52 many times in the past, and I’ve decided that 2015 is the year to do it! Basically, I take a photo every week.

Why a project 52 instead of a project 365? Well, I’ve actually completed a project 365 in the past. Not only that, I almost did it twice. If you look at my tumblr archive, I started a project 365 in September 2009, successfully completed it in 2010, and then kept going until July 2011!

Completed on 09/28/2010. Started a new one on 09/29/2010.

Completed on 09/28/2010! This is the first photo of the second 365.

From that, I learned that I treat a project 365 as a fun way to catalog my life. Not all of the photos are particularly interesting, and some were lazy ones that I took just to complete the day. Plus, I started it before Instagram was around, and now I use my Instagram in a similar way as the project 365.

What I want is a photography challenge, so I’m going to try and be more creative about it. A project 52 would give me more time to put thought into each photo, instead of churning out something daily. It’s been a month since I started, and here’s the progress!

My top movies of 2014

I hope you’re not tired of these 2014 recap posts yet! (Especially since I’m so late and didn’t post all of these until 2015 XD;;) I don’t normally talk about movies I’ve watched, but I saw some really memorable ones last year that I’d like to highlight. It was tough choosing a top 5, but I managed to get it down, starting with…

#5: Guardians of the Galaxy [trailer]

"Why would you want to save the galaxy?" "Because I'm one of the idiots who lives in it!"

“Why would you want to save the galaxy?” “Because I’m one of the idiots who lives in it!”

Of the super hero movies last year, Guardians was my favorite. I’m a sucker for the story type where unlikely heroes appear, and you end up with a dysfunctional group that has to work it out in their own crazy way. And yes, Guardians follows very similarly to Avengers (especially if you watch the Honest Trailer). The group has to learn to work with each other, there’s a big battle at the end where everyone’s involved to save the world, it ends in that “feel good” kind of way, yada yada. However, when cliches like that are done well, you get a very entertaining and funny movie like Guardians of the Galaxy.

#4: The Lego Movie [trailer]

"I know what you're thinking, he's the least qualified person to lead us... and you are right!"

“I know what you’re thinking, he’s the least qualified person to lead us… and you are right!”

There were also several great animated movies, but I have to pick The Lego Movie over them all. Part of it is the big nostalgia piece and my love of Legos when I was a child. Even with that aside, The Lego Movie is beautifully animated, has an amazing cast, is really creative, and is super funny. It was sooo fun to watch, and I loved seeing the different Lego sets used. This movie exceeded my expectations and ends in a surprisingly heart warming way.
