Wedding Memories

One of my closest friends is getting married later this year, and I’ve been trying to help as much as I can by answering questions and giving advice. The more I talk about it with her, the more I’m reminded of my own wedding. There were some facts about our wedding that not many people know about, and except for the first one, some of the guests probably didn’t realize either πŸ™‚

1. We did a rose ceremony.
We weren’t sure if wanted a ceremony ritual, and if we did do one, we weren’t sure if we wanted the common sand or candle ones. Fortunately, our officiant told us about the rose ceremony, which we had never seen before. The bride and groom exchange roses during the ceremony, and then as they walk out, they each hand the rose to their new mother-in-law. The tradition is then carried on by the couple by giving each other a rose every year on their wedding anniversary.

I loved the idea of handing off the rose to our mothers, and we still follow the tradition! Every year on our anniversary, my husband and I buy roses for each other, which is a nice reminder of our ceremony.

2. We used a metal song for our first dance.
It was really hard choosing a song for our first dance. My husband and I love alternative, rock, and metal, and those genres don’t fit into the typical “first dance” songs. After looking at several lists for recommendations, I gave up and decided that we shouldn’t stray from what we like.

Fortunately, there are many instrumental Metallica covers, and they are usually beautiful. We chose the Apocalyptica version of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters for our first dance. Only a few people caught on that it was based off of a Metallica song πŸ™‚

Year in review: 2014

Time for another annual year in review! Here’s how 2014 was for me πŸ™‚

Life in general

Like last year, my life has been very stable and doesn’t change much. Same job, same husband, same house, etc etc. Not much to report here πŸ˜‰ At work, I’m still a team lead and in a senior position. My team has grown though, so I have more people to manage.

Hobbies

In 2014, I continued my photography focus on cosplay photoshoots. I’m now able to fill all of my spots early on, with most of them taken by repeat clients. I did photoshoots at 2 conventions and also a private one in town. I’m happy with where this has gone πŸ™‚

I’ve also been asked to help out the photography team at work more. I worked on the photography team for our biggest event (our user conference) and filled in here and there throughout the year.

When it comes to cosplay, I remade one of my costumes and made 4 new ones. Though, of the 4 new ones… only one of them was for me XD;; My two major cosplays were our Spirited Away group which we wore at A-kon (I made all 3 costumes) and my Rhyme cosplay which I wore in Japan.

As for gaming, well, I dedicated a whole entry to it already πŸ™‚

Home Decor – Guest Room

Well, I managed to finish a couple tasks from my last entry, which leads to this post about our guest room πŸ™‚ I’ve been working on tidying it up lately.Β It should really be called the “hand me downs” room because every piece of furniture in it is something that we used to use. For example, the bed and nightstand were mine before my husband and I moved in together.

I went with a green theme to the room, which you can see by the bedsheets and curtains. I made the curtains myself, though I’m not sure if it saves money since the fabric + notions comes out to $30+. I really did it because there’s a larger variety in prints, and I can make them in the style I want.
